TITLE:
Those receiving funds from the Federal Welfare program cannot vote in the year or years in which the funds are receivede.
MAJOR AREAS TO BE AFFECTED:
All those on welfare
JUSTIFICATION:
Over 7.2 million people are currently recieving benefits from the Federal Welfare program. These people have a vested interest in seeking to elect officials who will continue to provide Federal assistance. It is poor public policy to allow people who pay no taxes but nevertheless get benfits and still vote. They are less likely to become careful overseers of their elected officials.
PROPOSAL FOR ACTION :
Those on Welfare will forfeit the right to vote.
RESULTS TO BE EXPECTED :
The goal of this bill is to encourage more of the people on Welfare to get off Welfare. This will create more responsible voters and with the number of people leaving the program, the amount in dollars needed for the program will inevitably decrease.
